The US Represented Weekly Update

Hello USR members and visitors,

We hope your week is going well and you’re looking forward to a pleasant Thanksgiving Day. We’ll begin our weekly update by mentioning that Lindsay Deen, our USR site administrator, editor, columnist, and designer created our new banner and logo. We think they look great, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. As always, thanks for your excellent work, Lindsay! We’ve also updated Lindsay’s “Perspective for Hire” column to reflect all the writings she has contributed to USR over the past year, to include interviews, opinion pieces, rhetorical analysis videos, and poetry. We would also like to acknowledge some new and familiar contributors for the fine works they’ve shared on our pages. Veronica Welch’s “Rufie” is a touching sketch of her relationship with her Lhasa Apso. Magnolia Cook examines the arc of MGMT’s career in “MGMT: The Management Is Still in Charge.” Mara Zilkenat’s spartan poem “This Cold” describes a frigid journey into the core of one’s very being. In “The New Rules of Engagement for Professional Musicians,” John DeLoach explains the economic and cultural realities with which professional musicians must contend in a digital world. Mike Yordy conducts a fascinating interview with Don Ness, one of our country’s most successful mayors, who helped reanimate Duluth’s economy via intelligent urban planning and visionary strategies for keeping young professionals in the city. Judith Beatty’s “Cole” is a sobering portrait of the consequences of parenting gone wrong.
