The US Represented Weekly Update

Hello everyone,

Have you been having a good week so far? As always, we’ve been staying busy. As most of you have probably already noticed, we’ve posted some quality works to keep you informed and entertained. We showcased a very eclectic mix of writings, which is always our intended goal, and for good reason. We’re pretty sure this is what you want given that our ever-growing readership is as diverse and loyal as anyone could imagine. It’s been really great to see this happen exactly as we had hoped it would when we started this online adventure. You’re an entertaining, interesting, and open-minded group, and we love sharing a myriad of engaging writings and artwork with you.

Speaking of art, we’re still in the process of managing a significant and challenging Visual Arts upgrade. Sometimes, these things just take a little time, and we appreciate your patience in this regard. Again, once the Visual Arts section meets our standards, we’ll be populating it with quality works and running a contest that everyone should enjoy.

Our weekly review covers quite a bit of ground. In “Colorado Springs: Jaywalking Central,” first-time USR contributor Bernardo Bermudez argues for greater awareness and stricter law enforcement concerning a dangerous problem in his community. Mandy Solomon’s “Fox River Kings” reminds us of how cool it is to be a part of a treehouse community. We also included part of a speech where Neil Young discusses the importance of capturing a moment of raw musical beauty. Mark Eberhardt’s “Keeping Hunger in Mind” points out that we have the means to end hunger, but it will take an engaged population to make this happen. Mark’s discussion is just one of many articles on poverty and the environment we’ll be running over the next several weeks. In ”The Destiny of Gaming?” FreedomWolf says, “Part shooter, part role-playing game (RPG), and part social media, Destiny will challenge everything we’ve come to expect from a video game.” We always enjoy publishing FreedomWolf’s work. He approaches topics from interesting angles. In the short story “Anything but Perfect,” Sheila comes to terms with her imperfect self and her perfect cup of coffee. Mike Yordy’s intense and honest “Reflections of a Former Federal Corrections Officer” offers an intriguing glimpse into what it’s like to work within the walls of a federal prison.
